Happy Birthday Big Momma’s
Get ready to celebrate! Tomorrow afternoon (August 3) from 4–6 p.m., Big Momma’s Coffee & Espresso Bar and its CEO Lyle Foster are throwing a customer-appreciation party to commemorate 15 years of slinging some great coffee and being a beloved fixture on Historic Commercial Street. Make sure you're on-hand for a brief ceremony and some awards at 4:30. But even if you can’t make the party, you can still celebrate Big Momma’s all week by popping in to order the $1 iced coffee special—and that’s some seriously tasty iced coffee!
Taste of Jamaica
If you haven’t eaten at Jamaican Patty Company yet, you’re missing out on some seriously delish Jamaican eats—served via food truck and at a storefront on South Campbell Avenue in Springfield. But even if you already love those tasty patties and flavorful entrees, you may not know that the spot also has a newly expanded Jamaican market, selling everything from snacks and sodas to pantry items and oxtail meat.
Foodie Fun This Week
This is a big week for food events. In addition to the 15th anniversary party for Big Momma’s, we have a farm-fresh vegan dinner and a farm-inspired cocktail class.
First up: Vegans and vegan-curious diners, Van Gogh’s Eeterie is bringing back its Farmer’s Market Vegan Buffet Night–and y’all, it’s TONIGHT! Pop in from 5 to 9 p.m. for a $15.99 buffet featuring tasty dishes made from C-Street City Market produce. Kids are welcome too, for $7.99.
Then tomorrow from 6–8 p.m. Finley Farms is hosting their Cocktails From the Farm event. For $55 you can take a cocktail class with Aaron Rozeboom and learn to make farm-inspired cocktails using liqueurs made from summertime ingredients like rhubarb and artichoke. Garnishes come fresh from the farm, and you'll get to munch on light snacks during the class.
ICYMI: Itty Bitty News Bites
Have you tried the seasonal homemade syrups at Dancing Mule Coffee Company? They have several this summer, including fresh mint and strawberries-and-cream. But our favorite is the rosemary-vanilla. It's not too sweet, it's delightfully herbaceous, and it is so tasty in an iced coffee.
Funky flavors alert! Now that it's August, Culture Counter has added some new seasonal ice cream flavors to the mix, and they look delish. There's a roasted tomato and peach ice cream with balsamic swirls (what? yes please!) and Earl Grey ice cream with candied lemon peel. We're so curious about the tomato ice cream, and we love any dessert that incorporates tea, so we're all in!
Bambino’s Cafe just extended the Sunday hours at their Battlefield Road location to 11 a.m.–9 p.m., which means you can get your indulgent pasta fix during the dinner hours again! Everybody knows the best way to combat the Sunday scaries is by feeding them some warm carbs.
