New Indian Eats
A new Indian restaurant opened this past weekend in the 1908 S. Glenstone Ave. restaurant space formerly occupied by Avanzare. Peep India Palace’s socials for some pics of their food and their extensive menu. The menu features so many of our favorite, familiar Indian dishes, like lamb biryani, butter chicken, rasmalai for dessert and more. But we’re excited to see less common (for Springfield, at least) dishes as well, like the Nepalese chicken momo dumplings on the Indo-Chinese portion of the menu and an especially robust tandoori portion of the menu. We’re planning to try one of the new-to-us desserts when we visit, like the falooda (a cold noodle dessert) or the Honeymoon Halwa. Maybe we’ll see you there!
We’re Sad to See You Go
The beloved Black Lab Coffee Co. coffee shop has closed its Galloway neighborhood location as of December 22. In a post shared a few days prior, the shop’s owner wrote: “With tears in our eyes and sadness in our hearts, we will be permanently closing. my wife, Christa, was diagnosed with stage 3 Colon cancer recently and is fighting a tough fight. Alongside this and several other issues like construction restricting the flow of traffic and parking issues, it is in our best interest to shut down this location.” We are sad to see this place close—but more than anything else, we wish Christa the very best in her battle with cancer. The Republic location of Black Lab Coffee remains open, so be sure to show your support there!
Lindwedel on the Landing
If you’re a fan of Lindwedel Winery, there’s now a second location where you can visit them. They’ve recently opened a brand new outpost at Branson Landing. There you can sip on some wine, of course, but you can also fill up on tasty dishes like warm soup and freshly prepared sandwiches—perfect for sustenance while you do that last-last-last-minute Christmas shopping on the Landing today
ICYMI: Itty Bitty News Bites
• Today is the last day for the Wrapping Paper Deal at 4 By 4 Brewing Co. (at both the Fremont Hills and the Galloway locations). Here’s how it works: You show up with the gifts you need to wrap for Christmas, and they provide wrapping paper, scissors and tape. While you wrap, you can sip on pints for just $4 each.
• Miss Boston’s Cocktail Lounge has a new “secret special cocktail,” and when you order it, they donate $1 to the Isabel’s House Isabel’s Tree Campaign. The cocktail is called Pepper Patch, and it features rum, ancho chile liqueur, pepper puree, pumpkin puree, lemon juice, orange bitters, tiki bitters and saline.
• Georgia Mac’s recently released a new menu, filled with tasty treats like a deviled egg flight (Yum! Yes please!) and more than 20 chicken wing flavors.
• The Vineyard Market debuted a new dinner menu this month too. Some dish highlights include blackened salmon with crawfish tomato cream, beef tenderloin with blackberry-balsamic-cognac reduction, a smoked cornish game hen and more.

High Fives to Corner 21
In a newly released Yelp list of the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants 2024, Springfield’s own Corner 21 Chinese Cuisine ranked No. 17
on a list that included restaurants from across the country! We’re so
excited to see this little local gem—who had a big glow-up in 2024—rank
so highly. To create the list, Yelp looked for Chinese restaurants that
were not national chains, and they ranked those based on volume and
ratings of Yelp reviews. If you haven’t tried Corner 21 yet, now is the
time. And make sure you get the duck or the steamed pork buns while
you’re there for a showstopping meal. And in related news: Corner 21’s
original Sunshine Street location just reopened a few days ago, so now
you can visit their shiny new spot on Republic or their teeny original
on Sunshine.
Eat, Don’t Cook
Are you responsible for feeding a
crowd (or even just your family) this holiday season, but you don’t feel
like cooking? There’s still time to reserve an entire meal, prepped and
ready for you to warm up and serve, from some local restaurants. St. Michael’s Restaurant & Italian Catering offers a couple sizes of meals, all of which include pasta, meatballs or sausage, salad, rolls and cake. Hy-Vee has several options for breakfast/brunch, ham dinners, turkey dinners and more. Price Cutter offers ham or turkey dinners with bunches of yummy sides too. And if your holiday party is more snacks and apps–focused, Pickwick & Cherry
has online ordering for everything from traditional panettone and
stollen to a plethora of desserts and savory treats like
cheese-and-prosciutto bunko bread, hazelnut-mushroom pate and antipasto
wreaths.
