Miss Molly Simms, False Success

The new album from Miss Molly Simms, False Success, is a blend of Americana rock, 1990s grunge and 1960s soul steeped in the blues. While the nuances and styles shift and sway from track-to-track, her malcontent for the status quo is clear. On the opening title track, Miss Molly Simms refuses to “climb a ladder that leads nowhere—a false success.” Her powerful backing band features guitarist Brian Henneman (of alt-rock faves The Bottle Rockets), and a three-piece horn section. Released on St. Louis’s Gaslight Records, her booming voice is at full capacity in the low-tempo, high-soul ballad “Real Good Man.” Miss Molly Simms plays Lindbergs Tavern with Springfield-based openers The Deadnettles and Grandma Strange this Saturday.
